Delightful Poems About Life
What we decide, the action we take,
the attitude we display
All represent the steps of life.Sometimes we take two steps forward
And one-step back.
Some of us take baby steps
Some of us take giant steps
But the secret is not to let that
one step back turn into a failure.
Learn from backward steps
And keep on stepping forward in this dance Called Life!
They will pass away my dear, so shrug away all the anger.
Don’t complain even if your sad days are taking away the shine,
Smile my friend, because your happy days are just down the line.
Nobody said that life was going to be free from troubles and a perfect road,
They only promised, it would teach you how to smile even in times of load.
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store; For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.
Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.
Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.
In the world’s broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!
Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,—act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o’erhead!
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;
Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.
For some, it’s short, but they live it like no other.
For most, it’s long, and to be happy they don’t ever bother.
Life cannot be lived without the love of others. The second we are born is the second we begin to die.
As a child, we live life and don’t worry why.
As we grow, it gets tougher and we don’t want to try.
Like everything else, it will end and we’ll have to say goodbye.
Whether it’s twenty years or one hundred-twenty,
Live it with a purpose to be greater than many.
Most likely life will be long;
So live it with the future in mind
Because if you act in the moment life is never kind.
You stay up ’til 2am just wishing you were dead.
You ask yourself, “Why can’t it be someone else instead?”
You get tired of all the thoughts in your head. You lose sight of who you want to be.
You blame yourself, screaming, “Why am I me?”
You wish you could just be free.
Open your eyes and you’ll see
That life is what you make it, and sometimes it’s hard.
We get battered and bruised, mistreated and scared.
We forget what’s important.
We forget our drive.
We all need a focus point,
A reason to survive.
Find your passion.
Find your drive.
Find something that makes you fight,
And you will survive.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Some will be there, some can’t be found.
If they won’t care as they should, so be it.
This is life in the way that I wish to see it.You can give your all, or you can try not.
When they decide to leave, what have you got?
You build it up, then it breaks away.
This is life in the way I see it today.
Days come and go, true hearts stay close.
Without happiness, love is an imitation at most.
You haven’t stayed close, it’s hard to love you,
This is life in a way that is sadly true.
To leave behind such a feeble mind,
forget it and pursue someone real.
This is my goal, and in time…
This will be life and the way that I feel.
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty,
to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has
because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
I know my truth,
I know who I am,
I know what I do and
do not bring to the table.
I’m not easy to deal with
but I do bring tons of value.
I bring love and strength,
but I am not perfect,
and if I don’t fit in
with a person or group
that is okay with me.
So you better play your turn,
So what if destiny is uncertain and stern,
Thoughts in mind, and never be down,
There is nothing to complain and blame,
Life is just a game,
So, keep that smile on your face,
And, you will win through the race,
Life is a gamble, so play your game,
Go ahead and make your name!
Be it the slightest contact –
Get there from some good;
Some little grace; one kindly thought;
One aspiration yet unfelt;
One bit of courage
For the darkening sky;
One gleam of faith
To brave the thickening ills of life;
One glimpse of brighter skies –
To make this life worthwhile
And heaven a surer heritage.
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
but on my face there is no smile; instead there is a frown.I never laugh anymore; instead I cry,
and I never stop to ask myself, “Why?”
I heard we live and die by the choices we make,
and there’s only so much a person can take.
So just remember life goes on,
and it hurts when someone leaves and is gone.
So always remember, keep your head up,
because another door is opened every time one is shut.
But, he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he had tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
Our life’s succeeding stages;
A day to childhood seems a year,
And years like passing ages. The gladsome current of our youth,
Ere passion yet disorders,
Steals lingering like a river smooth
Along its grassy borders.
But as the careworn cheek grows wan,
And sorrow’s shafts fly thicker,
Ye stars, that measure life to man,
Why seem your courses quicker?
When joys have lost their bloom and breath,
And life itself is vapid,
Why, as we reach the Falls of Death
Feel we its tide more rapid?
It may be strange—yet who would change
Time’s course to slower speeding,
When one by one our friends have gone,
And left our bosoms bleeding?
Heaven gives our years of fading strength
And those of youth, a seeming length,
Proportion’d to their sweetness.
that to be
I had to
I did it…
I lost my
my whole life.
All the things that make a way,
All the grudges that make us think,
All the moments missed with a blink,
What is life, is really tough,
What is life, it’s difficult to understand,
When you chase it and put in your fist,
It flows away like sand,
That is the meaning of life!
It’s more precious, than all the gold.
As we wake, there’s a shine,
From our sun, the day is fine. With our family, life we share,
They love us back, they truly care.
We are never, ever alone,
We are people, we’re not stone.
I love life, for the little things,
When a little child sings.
Abundant joy, we may create,
I love life, it’s truly great!
but not in the way
most people accept.
I’m busy calming my fear
and finding my courage.
I’m busy listening to my kids.
I’m busy getting in touch
with what is real.
I’m busy growing things and
connecting with the natural world.
I’m busy questioning my answers.
I’m busy being present in my life.
When you want to go a little higher,
Life fulfills beautiful creations,
Though there are some frustrations,
But, everything apart, life is bliss,
A wonderful giving of god,
This can’t be missed,
Life is truly a bliss!
Just to drive with no destination in mind.
The road seems to go on and on
With no stopping point
Life is like that long road going on and on
Not knowing when it’s going to end.
But still you strive for another tomorrow
Hoping that in the long run
Everything will turn out alright
Just like the road though
It must come to an end.
You think there’s no chance for you, son?
Why, the best books haven’t been written,
The best race hasn’t been run,The best score hasn’t been made yet,
The best song hasn’t been sung,
The best tune hasn’t been played yet,
Cheer up, for the world is young!
No chance? Why the world is just eager
For things that you ought to create,
It’s store of true wealth is still meager,
It’s needs are incessant and great,
It yearns for more power and beauty,
More laughter and love and romance,
More loyalty, labor and duty,
No chance–why there’s nothing but chance!
For the best verse hasn’t been rhymed yet,
The best house hasn’t been planned,
The highest peak hasn’t been climbed yet,
The mightiest rivers aren’t spanned,
Don’t worry and fret, faint hearted,
The chances have just begun,
For the best jobs haven’t been started,
The best work hasn’t been done.
And the passage to sleep becomes harder to find,
I close my eyes, turn out the light
And listen to the music of the night.First there’s the silence, looming and menacing,
The audience lies waiting, patiently listening.
My heart is racing; it’s pounding and deafening.
The taste of tension is sour and sickening.
Outside the wind blows a sweet, sad refrain
That plays on repeat again and again.
It builds to a crescendo, stormy and wild
Until it blows over and breathes like a child.
The rhythm of the night train’s clickety-clack,
‘The Moonlight Sonata’ for insomniacs.
It’s a song of love and another heart broken
When so much is said without a single word spoken.
A dripping tap becomes a cacophony,
The percussion in my moonlight symphony.
Every drip…drip…drop performed in the overture
Is a well-rehearsed line in my sleepless torture.
The hymns of miners lost in the gloom
Are sang by angels as they circle my room.
Voices that flicker like light from a flame
Are swallowed by the coal-black from which they came.
Birdsong at dawn, a heavenly choir,
Brings me to rest and my eyes start to tire.
While sunlight chases my demons away,
I fall asleep gently to the sounds of the Day.
Only in the places where wealth and fame abound.
And so we go on searching in palaces of pleasure
Seeking recognition and monetary treasure,
Unaware that happiness is just a state of mind
Within the reach of everyone who takes time to be kind.
For in making others happy we will be happy, too.
For the happiness you give away returns to shine on you.
Never meets with reality
Till its final moment
Every day we dream of
Conquering new continents
All are illusions
And without realising
The final reality
Will one day envelop us
So finality is the true reality
with the attitude that
your health of mind,
and your heart
mean more than
getting everything else done.
That your smile matters,
That feeling rested matters.
That holding the hand
of your loved ones matter.
So pause lots,
function at a pace
that doesn’t pull you apart.
Honour the things that
make you feel good inside,
the things that make you feel alive.
Give time to those things this week.
Make time the gift it is,
by giving it to what really matters to you.
is not worth dying, if
(and when) roses complain
their beauties are in vainbut though mankind persuades
itself that every weed’s
a rose, roses (you feel
certain) will only smile
You’re young until you’re not
You love until you don’t
You try until you can’t
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath
No, this is how it works
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else’s heart
Pumping someone else’s blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don’t get harmed
But even if it does
You’ll just do it all again
What this life is meant to be.
To know it goes beyond myself,
It’s so much more than me.To overcome the tragedies,
To survive the hardest times.
To face those moments filled with pain,
And still manage to be kind.
To fight for those who can’t themselves,
To always share my light.
With those who wander in the dark,
To love with all my might.
To still stand up with courage,
Though standing on my own.
To still get up and face each day,
Even when I feel alone.
To try to understand the ones
That no one cares to know.
And make them feel some value
When the world has let them go.
To be an anchor, strong and true,
That person loyal to the end.
To be a constant source of hope
To my family and my friends.
To live a life of decency,
To share my heart and soul.
To always say I’m sorry
When I’ve harmed both friend and foe.
To be proud of whom I’ve tried to be,
And this life I chose to live.
To make the most of every day
By giving all I have to give.
To me that’s what this life should be,
To me that’s what it’s for.
To take what God has given me
And make it so much more
To live a life that matters,
To be someone of great worth.
To love and be loved in return
And make my mark on Earth.
Life is counting down on your internal clock.Memories that feel as if they occurred yesterday
turn to flashes of moments that seem to fade away.
People you once knew
walk by without a clue.
The times you once shared
exist as if you were never there.
Years fly…friends die…
and you never know when you’ll say your last goodbye.
Oh, how I wish I could turn back time,
spend it with loved ones and cherish what once was mine.
Or to go back even more,
being a kid in a candy store.
How I miss the way I used to feel
on Christmas day when Santa was real.
But back to reality…back to today,
family is scarce and memories continue to fade away.
Tick tock…tick tock…
How I wish I could control this clock.
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
Expressed or still;
Exists in every human nature
A goal,Admitted scarcely to itself, it may be,
For credibility’s temerity
Adored with caution, as a brittle heaven,
Were hopeless as the rainbow’s raiment
Yet persevered toward, surer for the distance;
Unto the saints’ slow diligence
Ungained, it may be, by a life’s low venture,
Eternity enables the endeavoring
She can be vicious at times.
And the worst of it is that
she often mingles truth with fiction.
But you must learn to challenge
the stories she feeds you.
You get to be the boss of your thoughts.
You can learn to question
whether or not
everything she tells you
and nothing but the truth.
Since you have done the work
to deepen self-awareness
when she throws all your past failings
in your face you won’t crumble
because you already know you are imperfect…
AND you are beautiful
of building a
thoughtfully crafted life.
With forward face and unreluctant soul;
Not hurrying to, nor turning from the goal;
Not mourning for the things that disappear
In the dim past, nor holding back in fear
From what the future veils; but with a whole
And happy heart, that pays its toll
To Youth and Age, and travels on with cheer. So let the way wind up the hill or down,
O’er rough or smooth, the journey will be joy:
Still seeking what I sought when but a boy,
New friendship, high adventure, and a crown,
My heart will keep the courage of the quest,
And hope the road’s last turn will be the best.
How honest you are
Who your friends are
What books you read
How often you exercise
The type of food you eat
How many risks you take
How you interpret the situation
How kind you are to others
How kind you are to yourself
How often you say “I love you.”
How often you say “thank you.”
How you express your feelings
Whether or not you ask for help
How often you practice gratitude
How many times you smile today
The amount of effort you put forth
How you spend / invest your money
How much time you spend worrying
How often you think about your past
Whether or not you judge other people
Whether or not you try again after a setback
How much you appreciate the things you have
The Life that we shall see
Surpasses it, we know, because
It is Infinity.
But when all Space has been beheld
And all Dominion shown
The smallest Human Heart’s extent
Reduces it to none.
I was living in a lie.
It seems that my childhood
has flown right by.
My daddy walked out,
and I had nowhere to cry.
I had to stay strong
so my spirit wouldn’t die.
Now I’ve grown up too fast
trying to make this life last.
I push to move forward,
but I’m stuck in my past.
Tell me, what’s a girl to do?
Forget about it through and through?
That’s not something I can do.
What’s done is done,
Ain’t that the truth?
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness.
Some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
Who violently sweep your house
Empty of its furniture,
Still, treat each guest honourably,
He may be clearing you out
For some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
Meet them at the door laughing,
And invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
Because each has been sent
As a guide from beyond.
But in this lady’s lips and hands and eyes;
Through these she yields thee life that vivifies
What else were sorrow’s servant and death’s thrall.
Look on thyself without her, and recall
The waste remembrance and forlorn surmise
That liv’d but in a dead-drawn breath of sighs
O’er vanish’d hours and hours eventual.Even so much life hath the poor tress of hair
Which, stor’d apart, is all love hath to show
For heart-beats and for fire-heats long ago;
Even so much life endures unknown, even where,
‘Mid change the changeless night environeth,
Lies all that golden hair undimm’d in death.
you get honest with yourself and
start doing what you love,
what makes you happy.
You stop wishing for the weekend.
You stop merely looking forward to special events.
You begin to live
in each moment
and you start feeling
like a human being.
You just ride the wave that is life,
with this feeling of
contentment and joy.
You move fluidly,
A veil is lifted,
and a whole new perspective
